John Tillery: How to Approach Swing Changes

Learn from top instructor John Tillery as we talk about his work with players on the PGA tour like Kevin Kisner, Scott Brown, and others. He shares how he approaches swing changes and what we all can add into our practice to help them stick.

John shares a few stories from his work with tour pros Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown.

When John started working with Kevin Kisner they made some big changes in his golf swing.  He was hitting it steep and off the heel because a whole variety of issues. To play his best he needs to drive it straight and can’t hit to many wild shots.

How do you make swing changes stick?

Until players conceptually understand it and own it’s not going to work. They have to own the change and we have to be on the same page so they can almost coach themselves.

When that happens players are more bought into the change and the process they’ll put in the daily work that needs to happen on the range, in the gym, and on the course.

Getting into the gym is huge.  It can drastically help them move towards more functional movement patterns.

Counterweight training alters the physics of your golf swing by significantly changing the balance point of the golf club and moves mass behind your hands. This allows for significantly faster release speed of the golf club which produces much faster hand and arm speed in your golf swing.
